The custom chandelier consisting of 318 internally illuminated rods, forming a 40-foot-high and 40-foot-diameter lighting fixture, retracts into the ceiling once a performace starts. Various configurations of the rods can produce several effects, such as a Christmas-tree shape--the inverse of what's shown here.
