ウィル・チェイス（ Will Chase、1970年9月12日 - ）は、アメリカ合衆国の俳優、歌手である。ブロードウェイでのミュージカルへの出演と、ABCのTVシリーズ『ナッシュビル 』のルーク・ホイーラー役で有名である。
経歴[編集]
チェイスは1970年、ケンタッキー州、フランクフォートで3人兄弟の3男として生まれ、ウェスターン・ヒルズ・ハイ・スクールを卒業後に、オバーリン音楽院に入学して、ロバート・スパーノのもとで指揮法を学び、打楽器を専攻していた[1][2]。オバーリン音楽院ではいくつかの演技のクラスも受けていた。そして3年生のときに、友人の監督で、ミュージカル『スウィーニー・トッド』にアンソニー役で出演した。翌年のケープ・コッドでの夏期公演では、すべてのショーに出演したが、卒業するまではパーカッションの演奏と指揮を行っていた。シカゴでショーの編曲をしていた友人がいたので、卒業後にシカゴでオーディションを受けて、ショーに出演することになった。そして、この出演が俳優としての始まりとなった[3]
キャリア[編集]
チェイスのブロードウェイでの出演は、1998年の『レント』でのスクィージー・マン役とロジャー役だった。そして『レント』の公演最後のロジャー役だった。このロジャー役で出演したものが、『Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway』として録画、放送の対象になった[4][5]。また『ミス・サイゴン』ではクリス役で出演して、オリジナルのキム役、レア・サロンガの最後の公演まで共演していた。
2000年に『フル・モンティ』のジェリー・ルコウスキ役で、2002年から2003年は『アイーダ』のラダメス役で、2005年には『Lennon』と『A Little Princess』のキャプテン・クルー役で出演した[6]。また、2005年、世界エイズ・デイの『The secret Garden』コンサートではネヴィル・クレイヴン役で出演した[7]。
2006年に『ハイ・フィデリティ』に、2008年にヴァージニア州アーリントンで上演された『蜘蛛女のキス』に、ヴァレンティン役で出演した。このヴァレンティン役でチェイスは 2009年の"Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actor"にノミネートされた[8]。
2007年にケリー・オハラと共演した『オクラホマ!』に、2008年に『Billy Elliot the Musical』に、2009年にケイト・ボールドウィンと共演した『パジャマゲーム』と『The Story of My Life』に、2013年に『The Mystery of Edwin Drood』にジョン・ジャスパー/クライヴ・パジェット役で出演した[9]。この作品のジョン・ジャスパー/クライヴ・パジェット役でトニー賞ミュージカル助演男優賞にノミネートされた[10]。
チェイスの映画出演は、2000年の『シャフト』での小さい役しかなかったが、2013年に『Butterflies of Bill Baker』のビル・バトラー役で主演をつとめた。また、2015年の映画『A Warrior's Tail』では声優としての出演を行った[11]。
TV出演はゲストとして、『レスキュー・ミー NYの英雄たち』、『Cupid』、『Canterbury's Law』、『LAW & ORDER』、『サード・ウォッチ』、『Conviction』、『Queens Supreme』への出演があった。
ゲスト・スターとしては、2009年の『LAW & ORDER:クリミナル・インテント』への出演があった[12]。
また、ジェニファー・ラヴ・ヒューイットやベティ・ホワイトが出演していた『The Lost Valentine』、『救命医ハンク セレブ診療ファイル』、『ブルーブラッド 〜NYPD家族の絆〜』、『PAN AM/パンナム』、『ホワイトカラー』、『Unforgettable』へのゲスト出演があった。
『SMASH』でのゲスト・スターとしてマイケル・スウィフト役で、『ナッシュビル』ではカントリーのスパースターのルーク・ホイーラー役で出演した。
チェイスは2016年、セント・ジェームズ・シアターで上演されていた『サムシング・ロッテン!』でクルスチャン・ボウルから引き継いで、ウィリアム・シェイクスピア役を引き受けた[13]。
私生活[編集]
チェイスは1998年から2008年まで結婚していた、ローリー・チェイスとの間に、デイジーとグレイシーの2人の娘がいる[14]。
2009年にチェイスはステファニー・ギブソンと結婚した[15]。しかし、夫婦関係は2012に終わった[16]。
