解説M26A1 Pershing at Musée des Blindés, Saumur, France (53353279616).jpg
American late-WW2 era medium/heavy tank
Although designed to replace the M4 Sherman, a protracted development meant that only 200 Pershings saw active service before the end of WW2. Over 2,200 were eventually built and they served extensively during the Korean War, but by 1951 they had been replaced in service by the M46 Patton.
This example is an M26A1 variant which used the 90mm M3A1 gun. It came to the museum from the US Army Garrison at Grafenwöhr in Bavaria and is on display in the ‘Contemporary World’ hall.
