An enumera-tion of them, with the reasons why they were adopted, and ageneral description of the car, are therefore of interest. TYPE OF CAR The climate of Chicago is such that the period of time duringwhich an open car (unprotected by windows) can be usedsatisfactorily during all hours of service is usually confined tothe months of July and August, and even during this periodcold rain storms, driving in from the lake, make riding in carsof this type at times quite uncomfortable. During the monthsof June and September there are many warm days, althoughusually the nights are so cold
