c/n 16187 / 32935 Built 1945 as a C-47B-30-DK with the US military serial 44-76603. Immediately delivered via Nassau to the RAF in India during April 1945. In British military service she was designated as a Dakota IV and given the serial KN462. She served with 436, 215 and 48 squadrons in the Far East and then joined No.240 Operational Conversion Unit (240OCU) based at RAF North Luffenham back in the UK. She also served with 27 squadron and is thought to have taken part in the Berlin Airlift. She was sold off in 1950 and became G-AMPT with Eagle Aviation. In 1953 she joined Central African Airways as VP-YKM and flew with them until sold to Air Malawi in 1966. Here she was registered as 7Q-YKM and remained until 1970 when she moved to South Africa and became ZS-EYO with Air Cape. She was later given the French overseas registration F-ODGL and flew with Hemet Exploration. In July 1987 she was bought by Gilbert Villa and appropriately registered as F-GILV. I saw her at Duxford in July 1991 painted as such. Sold again after Gilbert Villas death, she was allegedly flown on covert missions in Bosnia. She arrived in Malta from Bosnia in 1995 carrying American civil registration N48ME. Reregistered as 3C-JJN, she attempted to depart in February 1995 but returned due to engine failure. A disagreement between French and Bosnian owners led to her being Bosnian registered as T9-ABC after repairs were complete and it was intended to fly her back to Bosnia, but by then she had been impounded by the Maltese Court and was going nowhere. Auctioned off in November 1999, she was purchased by Malta based Medavia and then donated to the museum in April 2002. Moved by road at night, she finally arrived at the museum in March 2006. Unrestored but safe, she is on display in the Main hangar at the Malta Aviation Museum Ta’ Qali, Malta
